Importance of Islamic Fiqh

Obligation to Follow Divine Laws

“And judge, [O Muhammad], between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth” (Quran 5:48). This verse instructs the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and, by extension, Muslims to adhere strictly to the laws revealed by Allah, which is the essence of fiqh.

Guidance and Judgment

Allah says, “We have sent down to you the book as a clarification for all things and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims” (Quran 16:89). TaAllah says, ““Only a party from each group should march forth, leaving the rest to gain religious knowledge.” [Quran, 9:122]” And in another place, He said: “Indeed, We have sent down to you the book in truth so you may judge between people by that which Allah has shown you” (Quran 4:105). This verse emphasizes the role of the Quran as a source of guidance and judgment, which is implemented through Fiqh.

Prophetic Guidance

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:
“Whomsoever Allah intends good for; He gives him an understanding of the religion.” [Bukhari] and In another hadith: “Nothing is a better form of worship to Allah than understanding in religion,” reported by al-Bayhaqi from the hadith of Ibn ‘Umar. in another hadith:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “I have left among you two things; you will never go astray as long as you adhere to them: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah” (Muwatta Malik). This Hadith highlights the importance of both the Quran and the Sunnah as sources of guidance, which are interpreted and applied through fiqh.
